{"id":73,"date":"2019-03-31T01:52:43","date_gmt":"2019-03-30T20:52:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.andrewsmemorial.org\/camp\/?page_id=73"},"modified":"2024-06-20T15:33:58","modified_gmt":"2024-06-20T20:33:58","slug":"frequently-asked-questions-faq","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/andrewsmemorial.org\/camp\/frequently-asked-questions-faq\/","title":{"rendered":"Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why should I attend?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-a00dcf55f30faf038ed2db84bc907b9e wp-block-paragraph\">Our camp setting seeks to provide an environment that frees campers in this age group from the distractions of everyday life so that they can focus clearly on God and His Word.&nbsp; Each week of summer ministry we see campers enter into the life changing relationship with Jesus Christ.&nbsp; For other campers who already know Christ as Savior, our program encourages Godly character and growth through targeted Bible Studies and sound Bible preaching.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What do you consider to be a distinctive of your camp program?&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3f53f7268e02aaff2be1db06724d651d wp-block-paragraph\">God\u2019s Word!&nbsp; Our program is designed to have campers intensively interact with the Bible each day.&nbsp; Each week we lead campers through an entire book of the Bible&nbsp; four times.&nbsp; Daily Bible reading program (1); Prepared daily devotions (2); Daily Bible quizzing (3); Scripture Memorization (4).&nbsp; Campers also attend afternoon and evening chapel services centered on instruction from God\u2019s Word.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can I expect any other activities?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-c817762ba4da2dd11d275204b7b4c0f9 wp-block-paragraph\">Camp Deer Lake campers may enjoy many athletic activities at our indoor\/outdoor courts. These activities include basketball, volleyball, beach volleyball, soccer, softball, kickball.&nbsp; For those seeking a slower pace, we have a 9 hole miniature golf course.&nbsp; Lake activities include supervised canoeing and fishing.&nbsp; Separate swim times for boys and girls are enjoyed in our 57,000 gallon swimming pool.&nbsp; Table games are available in the camp snack shop.&nbsp; For competitively driven campers, we offer gaga-ball and pickle-ball.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What should I bring?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-26e441d6f755e95eb3d41f51fbead583 wp-block-paragraph\">Campers should plan on bringing&nbsp; the following items:&nbsp; Bedding, pillow, towels, toiletries, Bible, notebook, pen, sports clothes and shoes for outdoor activities, water shoes, spending money for the snack shop, insect repellent, sunscreen, flashlight, fishing gear and tackle (if desiring to fish), and Casual Dress clothes for evening services encouraged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-9b553b3250c1b500805a4fbbf4d52fd7 wp-block-paragraph\">We ask that&nbsp; LADIES \/ GIRLS may wear modest fitting, knee-length&nbsp; dresses, skirts, culottes or walking shorts, pants\/slacks&nbsp; permitted. Modest blouses, t-shirts and sport shirts are requested.&nbsp; One-piece swimsuits and water shoes are appropriate for swim time.&nbsp; Please do not bring tank tops, blouses with spaghetti straps, midriff baring t-shirts, low cut style tops,&nbsp; low rise pants, or mid thigh shorts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-37ae5545f73c3b388caf407c50a130bb wp-block-paragraph\">MEN \/ BOYS may wear jeans, sweats, or knee-length shorts. T-shirts and collared shirts requested.&nbsp; Please DO NOT wear shorts (above knee length), biker shorts, tank tops, or sleeveless shirts.&nbsp; Water shoes recommended for all swim activities.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Should I send a cellular phone with my child?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-64b341d8e234370cfe18246da262e900 wp-block-paragraph\">Parents often choose to send a cellular phone with their child to camp in the event of \u201chome sickness.\u201d\u00a0 Experience reveals cellular phone use actually encourages home sickness in the camper.\u00a0 We request campers leave cellular phones at home.\u00a0 Parents, family and friends are welcomed to send postal mail letters and care packages to their camper.\u00a0 We encourage campers to send mail home daily, too!<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How do I sign up?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-ece0a58e18839fbd590ff97b4d4e162d wp-block-paragraph\">Please give us a call at <strong>336-228-7801<\/strong>, or use our <a href=\"http:\/\/andrewsmemorial.org\/camp\/camper-registration\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"andrewsmemorial.org\/camp\/camper-registration\"><strong>camper<\/strong><\/a> or\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/andrewsmemorial.org\/camp\/counselor-registration\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"andrewsmemorial.org\/camp\/counselor-registration\"><strong>counselor<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0online registration form form more information.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What should I know about my arrival?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3ea1fb80e6d8e1750d1f0c83d8719fe3 wp-block-paragraph\">Camp officially starts at 2:00 pm. Final registration opens on Monday at 12:30 pm. The first meal we serve is supper on Monday night. Please feed your camper before arrival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-4e3b42c2d83fa54543dbb698108f94c5 wp-block-paragraph\">When you first enter the Camp, please stop by the signed building known as the Snack Shop.  The snack shop is a hub of activity so please be careful when driving through the property!  Remember there may be kids at play! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-ade17b5ad4e8a350b06d1e91761a521e wp-block-paragraph\">This year we are working to speed up your registration faster than ever.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-b5cf47c9ae27ba40434dd89b3af779c8 wp-block-paragraph\">If you are travelling with a <strong>church group<\/strong>, your group leader can check in a the snack shop to take care of any last minute corrections or add additional campers. If you have collected registration balances or snack shop expenses from your campers, please submit at this time. If you have not collected those balances, that is ok! We can handle registering your campers individually and set up snack shop spending accounts at the same time. Any unused snack shop expenses will be returned to your campers prior to departure. Also, please turn in your all camper medications at this time along with permission to administer medication forms. (Parents can submit this form in advance using our online form at: <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/andrewsmemorial.org\/camp\/permission\">andrewsmemorial.org\/camp\/permission<\/a>)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-ddbbac7b79603b9a76aeedfb6fa20a3b wp-block-paragraph\">If you are arriving as an <strong>individual<\/strong>, your parent can check in at the snack shop to complete your registration process. You are welcome this year to include snack shop expenses in the same payment to settle registration balance. Please have your campers turn in all medications at this time along with permission to administer medication forms. (Parents can submit this form in advance using our online form at: <a href=\"http:\/\/andrewsmemorial.org\/camp\/permission\"><strong>andrewsmemorial.org\/camp\/permission<\/strong><\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-1c621f54bb9f11b448c1ab43c0450f5f wp-block-paragraph\">Since we will not be serving snacks from the snack shop during registration, you can sit tight or hang outside the snack shop momentarily so we can give your group leader your dormitory assignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-81fe6059a21543a1b54a09a05ad5d092 wp-block-paragraph\">Once cleared, head down to your designated dormitory to find your bunk.  We do not assign beds, so you are free to pick any open bunk you chose.  As a courtesy, please keep your belonging on your bunk so that other arriving campers may know which beds are available. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-0e161cb1d47cf0b1501703c1edeb74cb wp-block-paragraph\">After you have your bunk secured, you are welcome to hang out at the locations in clear view of the snack shop: gymnasium, activity field, or putt-putt course.  Please do not go down to the lake or pool area.  Remain in sight of the snack shop!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-9ad3e64791caf0fcf87d4ec6517bf515 wp-block-paragraph\">Camp will start at 2:00 p.m. All campers and counselors will meet in the chapel for special instructions. This will be the last time Junior campers and teen campers will be together until departure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What should I know about my departure?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-271bee2a77fb8aa0371a40d8056a4621 wp-block-paragraph\">After breakfast on Friday, campers should be ready for departure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-eceb48235f3554bf3d1766d604baf1a2 wp-block-paragraph\">When picking up your camper, please drive slowly around camp buildings. Safety first!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-453b86c26970a232c15a2d73fa5b7df7 wp-block-paragraph\">The spirit of the trail is to <em>pack out what you pack in<\/em>. Don\u2019t forget to check the clothes line behind your camper\u2019s dormitory for items left drying. In the event something is left behind, we store all left items until the end of the season before sending to a local thrift store. Please contact us if your camper lost items.
